DESCRIPTION: A hand-sewn black felt banner with white appliquéd lettering and four brass eyelets for mounting. Dimensions: 600 x 400 mm. Text reads: "POLONY AND LOTTERY HYPER MEDIOCRE SUPPLY STORE." The "Lottery" has been struck through with a single white felt strip.
CONDITION: Excellent/Stable. Note: A slight chromatic shift (colour difference) is visible between the white edging and the central text, likely due to uneven exposure to the Snake Road aperture’s UV radiation.
SITE MANAGER’S NOTES: This was recovered from the window of a corner shop that "blinked" out of existence for three minutes in 1994. When it returned, the owner couldn't remember what a lottery was, but he was very insistent on the "Hyper Mediocre" branding. It’s a heavy piece of social commentary that suggests that in Benoni, the only thing you can truly bet on is disappointment.
